Introduction to Sandtray in Therapy – 2 Day Practitioners Workshop

Introduction:

This is an introductory two day workshop intended for practitioners who wish to experience the sandtray process and gain a theoretical overview. The weekend consists of a series of experiential sandtrays incorporating teachings and case studies that explore the theoretical and practical issues of working with sandtray in therapy.

Programme Content:

By the end of the workshop participants will have:

  • Developed an understanding of the use of sandtrays with clients
  • Considered the integrative theories relating to symbols and sandtray work
  • Experienced the use of miniatures and symbols and the sandtray as a containing space
  • Developed a basic understanding of materials needed for this work
  • Understand and develop skills needed to process sandtray
  • Had an overview of developmental issues that occur within sandtray work in therapy
  • Experienced role play in sandtray work
  • Learned about the research behind the power of sandtray in therapy

  • This course will be suited for Counsellors, Psychologists, Psychotherapists, Creative or Play Therapists.

About the Programme Facilitator

Gayle Kearney
Gayle KearneyIICP Module Lecturer & Child and Adolescent Specialist
MIBECPT, MIAPTP, holds a Master’s Degree in Practice Based Play Therapy, a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Care and Education, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy and Play Therapy.

Gayle is a play psychotherapist and the company director of Butterfly Children Ltd, which is accredited by the International Board of Examiners of Certified Play Therapists and the Irish Association of Play Therapy and Psychotherapy. Gayle is also co-founder and developer of the WOW (Wipe Out Worries) programme, she has worked for the HSE, Barnardos and in private practice as a child and adult psychotherapist.
