Blended Delivery
This programme is delivered via blended learning, whereby students attend evening sessions online along with some onsite days in our Tallaght Campus.
The online components involve students and their lecturer logging into our online learning platform Moodle and use the online portal Zoom™ simultaneously.
Zoom™ provides and integrative online environment for students and Lecturers to interact and engage in the learning. This platform facilitates discussion polls, sharing of slides, videos resources and much, much more. To foster more intimate learning environments the use of breakout rooms is also implemented, allowing for the safe and experiential triadic learning practice that we have found so successful.
All of our online sessions are accessible through computer and mobile devices and we have a structured and robust technology department to support all faculty and students through their online learning journey. To encourage flexibility, and the best practice, we also record online sessions, these are made accessible only to the students in that class to review content whenever is convenient to them!

This module aims to provide the participant with a critical, reflexive understanding of pedagogic theory and its implications and implementation in teaching practice. It will engender a critical understanding of learner motivation and styles of learning, along with diagnostic skills in identifying individual and class needs. Centrally, it will provide the participant with teaching experience where they can implement their learning in practice, and an opportunity to reflect on and develop their practical skills. The teaching experience can range from work based settings to peer practice as well as delivery of inputs onsite in the college for learners. The purpose of this module is to provide Higher Education teachers with a practical understanding of when and how to apply a wide range of teaching and training methods and techniques suitable to the needs of student groups. It will also provide participants with an opportunity to develop diagnostic and creative skills which will allow them to apply appropriate and relevant teaching and training supports and techniques in both corporeal and virtual environments learning environment. It is designed to complement skills and knowledge development within the other modules of this programme, while simultaneously developing the learner’s critical engagement with their knowledge and their practice. This module aims to provide learners with theoretical and practical knowledge related to the area of Technology Enabled Teaching & Learning. This module will enhance learners’ knowledge, skills, and competencies in the area of e-learning and will afford them with the opportunity to examine the extant literature supporting Technology Enabled Teaching & Learning. Through engaging with the module curriculum, participants will develop their competencies in line with the European Framework for The Digital Competence for Educators (DigCompEdu). Recent research demonstrates that, technology is successful when it is interactive, includes real-time feedback, and gives students the ability to creatively apply and evaluate what they have learned. Higher education is experiencing huge change. Technology enhanced learning has the potential to offer pedagogical approaches that are both accessible and flexible in the modern world. It recognises the richness diverse student profiles can bring to the learning experience and so promotes social learning. If used correctly technology can provide opportunities to engage learners of all profiles and offer an inclusive engaged learning environment.
Drawing on diverse fields such as learning theory, cognitive psychology, pedagogical theory, models of reflection and instructional design theory, this module provides a broad-based, critical introduction to key theoretical perspectives on teaching, learning, and assessment. In addition, this module will introduce learners to the contextual background of higher education in Ireland, and focus on contemporary principles and concepts of teaching, learning and assessment in higher education. It will introduce students to outcomes-based design in higher education, the basic principles of constructive alignment, and developing teaching and learning and assessment strategies that support the required learning. Learners will be given opportunities to engage with key topics in teaching, learning and assessment, such as curricular design, inclusive education, assessment of/for/as learning, models of reflection, and academic integrity. It will also provide opportunities to understand and apply institutional policies, such as assessment and grading practices and policies, and plagiarism prevention measures and guidelines. In order to effectively teach, lecturers require an in-depth understanding on theoretical perspectives on learning. This knowledge must also be applied knowledge, where learners are actively engaged in design practice.
