Laptop Requirements
IICP College Laptop Recommended Specifications (March 2026)
These recommendations should be viewed as guidelines for laptop requirements in IICP College. Please consult your hardware provider for advice.
Processor
Intel Core i5 or i7 (7th Generation and above) or AMD Ryzen 3rd Generation Processors, running at 2.0 GHz and above. Apple computers (2019 models and later), Apple M1 and later
RAM
Random access memory (RAM): 8 Gigabytes minimum (16 Gigabytes is better)
Storage
Solid-state drive (SSD) capacity: 256 Gigabytes minimum if you are storing in the cloud
Wi-fi
Wireless card: 802.11 a/b/g/n compliant with Bluetooth capability
Graphics
Graphics card: Intel HD Graphics/AMD Radeon™ Graphics/NVidia Quadro
Network
Network card: A 10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet Interface
USB
USB ports: Ensure there are at least 2 USB ports, including at least 1 USB 3.0 or USB Type-C port. If your laptop does not have USB ports, such as some of the newer MacBooks and Windows laptops, you may need to purchase a ‘Type-C to USB converter’. Additionally, consider obtaining a USB/Thunderbolt-to-Ethernet adapter (for Apple Macintosh) or a USB-to-Ethernet adapter (for Windows) to use the Ethernet network ports available at the College.
HDMI
HDMI access port to connect to projectors for presentations. It is possible to buy USB-to-HDMI adapters, which may require software updates.

IICP College does not recommend Chromebooks due to their limited functionality.
It is expected that each student has a smartphone to download our Digital ID student card. We use this card to communicate with our students about weather warnings and health and safety issues. The phone can also be used as a backup to tether for internet access to Moodle and email.
