Training
Michelle holds a Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of East London as well as a Higher Diploma in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. She has additional training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Psychotherapy for children and young people and Perinatal mental health.
She is an accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and I practice within their ethical framework. She is committed to ongoing professional development and attending trainings regularly.
Psychotherapeutic Approach
Michelle uses a Humanistic and Integrative framework. She recognises that no size fits all and is flexible and dynamic in the way that she works. Applying an integrative approach, she in regularly introduces other modalities such as cognitive behavioural therapy, creative arts and the use of metaphor. Michelle views the relationship between herself and her clients as paramount. She understands the importance of allowing clients to navigate and direct the course and pace of the therapy, and views her role as a facilitator and witness as clients move closer to their innate sense of self.
She is a trauma informed Psychotherapist meaning she recognises the impact of experiences that threaten a person’s sense of safety and I incorporate this knowledge into every aspect of my work.
Psychotherapy Experience and Areas of Interest
Michelle is a trauma informed Psychotherapist and has extensive experience working in this area. She currently works for a national charity providing Psychotherapy to survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Previous experience includes managing a team of psychotherapists at a low-cost community- based family therapy service. She also has experience working as a psychotherapist within school and community settings.
Michelle enjoys working with a wide range of issues, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties and trauma. She holds a level 9 certificate in perinatal mental health and works with woman, infants and couples. She also extensive experience working with parents on all aspects of parenthood and relationships.
