Introduction

Building on the work of the introductory workshop, the advanced SFBT seminar will offer participants further opportunity to deepen their understanding of and to practice the skills and methods of the SFBT approach.

Course Content

Learners will explore and examine some specific settings in which SFBT can be used effectively. Advanced goal setting and planning with clients will be a key aspect of the workshop. Furthermore, participants will be guided in ways to make the most of the miracle question.

This workshop will be highly participative. The Solution Focused approach will be demonstrated through role play and through the use of audio-visual material.

Who Should Apply:

  • This course will be of interest to professionals and volunteers who work with clients in counselling or mental health services in general.
  • Note: Applicants should have previous experience of SFBT or have already attended the SFBT (Introductory Day)

About the Workshop Facilitator

Eamon McElwee
Eamon McElweeIICP Module and CPD Lecturer
MA, MPS, BA, H.Dip.Ed, MIACP, MIITD
Eamon is an accredited counsellor and supervisor. He has been counselling individuals and
couples at the Skerries Surgery since 1997. He trained in the USA and was awarded Masters’ Degrees from Fordham University, New York and Loyola University, Chicago. Eamon was formerly Head of Training for Accord Marriage Counselling Service, and Director of Training in the Dundalk Counselling Centre. In addition to his work at the Skerries Surgery, he formerly lectured on groupwork and counselling at Trinity College. Currently he is a Senior Lecturer at IICP College, and lectures in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems, UCD and the Church of Ireland Theological Institute, Churchtown.
