Introduction

This four-day certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is run over four Sundays. Covering the broad areas of theory, assessment of presenting problems, disputation of irrational beliefs, and homework, the aim of the course is to equip participants with the necessary theoretical and clinical understand of the CBT approach to therapy.

Course Content

Participants will learn the history of CBT. Assessment of a problem will be explored, and participants will learn how to identify rational and irrational beliefs. Participants will be taught the different types of disputation in CBT.
Participants will learn how to dispute irrational beliefs at a logical, empirical and pragmatic level. The role of homework will be explored in detail. Having identified the need to develop and strengthen rational beliefs, participants will be given the skills required to help their clients achieve same.
The Certificate involves both theoretical and practical inputs, and learners will be encouraged to practice key CBT Skills in triads and small groups.

About the Programme Facilitator

Craig Barry
Craig BarryMA Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, BSc Counselling & Psychotherapy, Dip Integrative Supervision, Schema Therapy Certified, Critical Incidence Stress Management Certified, MIACP, ISST.
Craig joined the IICP faculty as an associate lecturer for the BSc in integrated counselling and psychotherapy program this year. He has many years of experience working in private practice, on-site corporate therapy, and with Pieta House. He is registered with the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and is a full member of The International Society of Schema Therapy. He has both training and experience in the main evidence-based psychotherapeutic modalities: psychodynamic, humanistic/person-centred, cognitive behavioural therapy, schema therapy and dialectical behavioural therapy.

Additionally, Craig works for numerous Employee Assistance Programs and was previously a case manager overseeing affiliate therapists and performing clinical assessments with service users.
