Introduction

Sand Play Therapy is a non-verbal, therapeutic intervention that makes use of a sandbox, a collection of miniature’s that represent all aspects of the world and water to create scenes that reflect a person’s inner world. With the help of sand trays, clients, guided by the therapist, begin to understand the connection between the world they created in sand and their own inner world. By making changes in their make-believe world, clients are often empowered to make similar changes in their real world. This form of play therapy is practiced along with talk therapy, using the sandbox and figures as communication tools.

One Day Workshop: – Introduction to Sand Play Therapy

This one-day experiential workshop will introduce you to the concept of sand play therapy. We will begin with a brief Introduction to what is ‘sand play through the eyes of Dora Kalff who combined several techniques and philosophies to come up with her own therapeutic approach called sand play therapy.

Because the nature of Sand play is pre-verbal and symbolic, the greater emphasis lies in the experiential component of this one -day workshop. There will be the opportunity to work in pairs as both creator and silent witness, coming together to reflect upon the sand pictures.

During the workshop you will have time and space to:

  • Experienced the use of miniatures and the Sand tray as a containing space.
  • Explore the symbolic nature of miniatures.
  • Explore the amplification of a chosen object.
  • Finally, we will consider twenty points in sand play therapy.
