DATE FOR ONE DAY CDP WORKSHOP

Wednesday the 21st of July 2010: 9.30am to 4pm (9am for workshop registration)

INSTRUCTOR

Padraig O'Morain, B.Sc. (Psychology), Dip. Counselling & Psychotherapy, Certificate in Buddhist Psychology, Certificate in Choice Theory.

Padraig O'Morain's grandfather wrote poetry to take his mind off his money worries and his father made up poems in his head while working in the fields of his farm. Padraig is a counsellor whose poetry has won awards in Ireland and Britain and whose work has been broadcast on RTE. He has conducted poetry workshops for counselling diploma students at the Institute for Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. He is completing an MA in Creative Writing at Lancaster University which emphasises the role of poetry in opening a channel to the subconscious. His collection of 20 poems, "You've Been Great," won an award in England in 2008 and his longer collection; probably to be called "Bodies in the Machine" will be published next year. He says: "This workshop will be enjoyable and, I believe, moving as participants see themselves and others through their writing. There is nothing to be afraid of: even if you have no experience of creative writing - though, actually, almost everyone has - you will discover the magic of poetry and how it can deepen your experience in the counselling room and in your relationships outside that space. If you are an accredited counsellor this is also a thoroughly enjoyable way to add 6.5 hours to your professional development log." Padraig also writes on psychological issues and his latest book is "Light Mind - Mindfulness for Daily Living." He writes for The Irish Times, The Evening Herald and the Irish Medical News and is a frequent contributor to radio programmes, especially the Arena arts programme on RTE Radio One.
